Southwark Youth Photography Competition Terms and Conditions

Entry Requirements

To participate in the Southwark Youth Photography Competition, candidates must:

  1. Be aged between 11 and 19 years old (or up to 25 years old for SEND young people).
  2. Reside in Southwark or regularly attend a Southwark-based youth centre, school, or organisation.
  3. Submit their photograph(s) by the competition deadline: Friday 21st March 2025.
  4. Choose one of the two entry categories:
    • Group Submission: Submit through your youth project with team and staff support.
    • Individual Submission: Submit independently through the online portal.
  5. Adhere to the competition themes:
    • Impactful Storytelling: Capture meaningful or thought-provoking images that reflect the diversity and experiences of Southwark’s youth.
    • Commercial Creativity: Create visually appealing, shareable content suitable for promotional purposes.

Competition Guidelines

  1. Submission Rules
    • Each participant can submit up to 3 photographs.
    • Images must be original work taken by the participant.
    • Photographs should not contain copyrighted content (e.g., logos, brands)
    • Only JPEG or PNG formats will be accepted.
    • Images should be high resolution (minimum 300 dpi).
  2. Themes and Judging Criteria
    • Entries will be judged based on creativity, technical execution, and relevance to the chosen theme.
    • Judges will evaluate:
      • Storytelling and emotional impact
      • Composition and visual appeal
  3. Submission Process
    • Youth Centre Submission: Deliver digital files to your youth centre representative with a completed submission form.
    • Individual Submission: Upload your files via the competition portal
  4. Ethics and Content Restrictions
    • Entries must not include explicit, offensive, or inappropriate content.
    • Any photographs featuring identifiable individuals must have their written consent prior to submission.

Data Protection and Privacy

  1. Use of Photographs
    • By entering, participants grant Southwark Council permission to use submitted photographs for promotional purposes across social media, websites, and other materials.
    • Credit will always be given to the photographer.
  2. Personal Data
    • Any personal information collected (e.g., name, age, contact details) will be stored securely and only used for competition purposes.
    • Data will not be shared with third parties.
  3. Safeguarding
    • Photographs submitted by anyone under 18 years of age must comply with safeguarding guidelines. Any identifiable individuals under 18 featured in submissions must have a signed consent form from a parent or guardian.

  • Be Original: Ensure your photograph is your unique creation.
  • Follow the Theme: Stick closely to the chosen category and theme.
  • Tell a Story: Use your image to convey a message, emotion, or experience.
  • Quality Matters: Ensure your photo is clear and well-composed.

Timeline

  • Submission Deadline: 21st March 2025
  • Short List Announced: 4th April 2025
  • Winners Announced: 11th April 2024

Prizes

Winners of the Individual category will receive a £50 Gift Card and recognition on the OneHub platform, Southwark Council’s website, social media and will be exhibited in Southwark.

All those shortlisted will receive a £10 Gift Card and their work will be exhibited in Southwark 

The group winners will receive £200 to be spent on a project of their choice*, and recognition on the OneHub platform, Southwark Council’s website, social media and will be exhibited in Southwark.

*The group will need to be constituted and have a bank account and the money must be spent on something that benefits at least 3 young people.  it cannot be spent on core costs or an existing project
